The 3rd annual workshop : Journalism with Sustainable Development (11/2017)

On 28th and 29th of November, 1977, in Hanoi, RED held the third annual workshop - 2017 with the theme: Journalism with Sustainable Development.

This is the annual conference organized by RED in collaboration with the Government of Canada (GAC) and UNESCO.

Attending the conference were representatives from UNESCO and the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, journalists and media experts from state agencies and journalism training institutes, press agencies, social organizations, professional associations, and enterprises nationwide.

At the opening ceremony, representatives of the Embassy of Canada gave a warm welcome and Mr. Michael Croft, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Viet Nam, said on the occasion of the International Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists "(2/11).

Mr. Tran Nhat Minh, Director of RED presented the process of operation of the organization in the period from 2010 to now, with activities throughout the program "Protect the rights of journalists." Through the process of tracking down the cases of journalists who have been hampered by their work, RED found new impediments: creating smear-defaming journalists, psychological terrorism, At the same time, it is also found that the standard deviation of work behavior, the motive of profiteering a section of journalists is also one of the causes. Psychological avoidance, hinder journalists when working.

RED teams research on the number of incidents that plagued journalists in 2017 and new manifestations, identifying profiteering in journalists' work, journalism and morality of the media through reader perception, state media in the context of government creation.

RED also launched a program to promote the media in pursuit of sustainable development goals of Vietnam 2030 (VSDG) focused on 8 topics: Transparency of finance, public procurement; report the use of inefficient development, environmental, public policy responses; values need to cheer; gender equality; community initiative contributing to sustainable development; The media coordinates the propaganda and use of grassroots citizen rights. Accordingly, RED proposes five specific activities: Building a network of journalists involved; forming a press award; documenting on VSDG; international cooperation ... by RED itself to coordinate from 2018.

The conference discussed a number of issues surrounding the topic of journalist protection in the workplace, the profiteering of journalists, international experiences and the ASEAN region in these fields.
